I thought over the decision to phonetically write out Tico’s accent for quite a while. I discovered that it actually slows down the reader a bit because you don’t read words that you can’t recognize, as fast as you would everyday words. I actually like that it does that cus it lengthens the scene out a bit.
It’s an interesting journey to adapt something that’s meant for film, into a graphic novel format. It really pushes you creatively, to solve little problems here and there. For instance, how to show that a different voice is speaking, without me wanting you to see them. My solution is to use a different colored callout. I have been reading a few more graphic novels here and there, and am starting to pick up some tricks and techniques. I’m having so much fun figuring it all out.
